We suggest you write down your room totals and measurements as you go. You can also draw a rough sketch of your rooms where your new flooring will be installed and write the dimensions on the drawing.

How to Measure for Flooring

Step 1

Measure the length and width of each room at its longest or widest point. You should round up to the nearest half foot.

For Example if your room is 10’ 4” wide, you should round up to 10’ 6” wide. This is easiest for when you are calculating final measurements and convert that to a decimal. Your new measurement is 10.5 ft

Step 2

Multiply your length and width measurements to determine the total number of square feet in your room.

For Example10’ wide and 15’ long: 10.5 x 15 = 150 square ft

Step 3

Add together the sums of each room you are planning to cover with new flooring.

For ExampleBedroom 1 = 200 square ft, Bedroom 2 = 150 square ft. Total Square Feet needed = 350 square ft
